A 33-year-old mother in Greece was pictured smiling at her disabled daughter in the last photo taken of the couple before “giving her a fatal dose of ketamine.”

Roula Pispirigou was charged with killing her nine-year-old daughter Georgina after a test of her muscle tissue revealed the presence of the anesthetic, which had not been administered by doctors.

Georgina – who suffered seizures in April 2021 that left her becoming tetraplegic – died in January after spending eight months in hospital and nurses later confirmed that Pispirigou was alone with her daughter in the moments leading up to her death.

Pispirigou, flanked by riot police and dressed in handcuffs and a protective vest, appeared in court in Athens last week for her arraignment before a crowd of onlookers and journalists.

She was charged with murdering her daughter and is being held in the high-security Korydallos prison in Athens until her trial date, which has yet to be agreed. She has denied any allegation.

Meanwhile, tissue samples from Pispirigou’s two other children are now being re-examined as part of an investigation into their deaths: three-year-old Malena from liver failure in 2019 and six-month-old Iris in 2021 from a suspected heart defect.

Forensic pathologist and president of the Forensic Union in Greece, Grigoris Leon, told the local news station, Syndeseis, that the exhumation of her other children confirmed that “criminal acts were the cause of death.”

He said: ‘There is absolutely no doubt that it is a criminal act. ‘We had two initial reports (when the children died) demonstrating the pathological cause of death. The first shows liver deficiency and the second heart defect in the aorta and pulmonary embolism,” reports the Greek City Times.

“As you understand, pathological causes do not coexist with findings that indicate criminal offences, which is why my colleagues are conducting reassessments.

“Essentially here the old causes of death will have to be lifted and this is the only way we can be led to the truth and find justice. Until the cause of death officially changes on the report, of course we can’t continue the conversation.’

A computer tablet buried with Georgina was recovered Saturday morning, on orders from the magistrate investigating the case as it could provide more evidence.

The tablet was buried with the schoolgirl as Pispirigou claimed it was “her favorite item,” but it has since been recovered after Georgina’s father, Manos Daskalakis, told magistrates that he is supporting the case against his estranged wife.

Pispirigou’s mother told local outlet STAR that she did not believe her daughter was capable of killing the three children.

She described a close mother-daughter relationship and said that Pispirigou was very upset about Georgina’s illness and death.

Court documents, local outlets reported, said the autopsy revealed Georgina died of a lethal dose of ketamine less than 20 minutes after it was administered.

According to the documents, medical personnel had last visited the nine-year-old about an hour before she died.
