Samsung’s ultra-fast 240Hz 4K gaming monitor, the Odyssey Neo G8, is available for pre-order starting Monday. The terminal will retail for $1,500 as of June 6. However, those who pre-booked the display through Samsung’s mailing list subscription, will receive a $50 voucher with their purchase.
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 monitor G85NB was originally announced at CES 2022 as the world’s first 4K gaming monitor with a refresh rate of 240Hz, features that are expected to particularly appeal to gamers. Visually, this should reduce tearing and provide smoother playback when gaming.
The 32-inch Quantum Mini-LED display also features a 1ms response time, as well as a peak brightness of 2,000 nits in HDR mode, and a stable contrast ratio of one million to one. It also includes 1,196 local dimming areas and 12-bit black levels.
We’ll have to see how this compares to the Alienware 34 QD-OLED, which was the best HDR gaming monitor we’ve tested so far thanks to its use of amazing QD-OLED technology.
The screen is also curved in design and is similar to the 49-inch Odyssey Neo G9, except for the slimmer side bezels. The Odyssey Neo G8 is available in white and includes a set of ports conveniently hidden in the rear opening.
While Samsung hasn’t shared details about the ports on the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8, the brand notes that the display shares a similar design language as the Odyssey Neo G9, which could hint at a similar port system. However, with a new model, design updates are expected, which may include removing or adding new ports.
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 also supports Adaptive-Sync, which works with either Nvidia GeForce graphics cards or AMD Radeon graphics cards.
