A new report from Jeff Pu indicates that Apple’s AR headset will be delayed further and likely only to be launched at the beginning of next year. That’s not really a huge delay as the latest rumors point to a late 2022 release, but it still isn’t great.
Supply chain constraints and the fact that Apple doesn’t want to release the first AR in limited stock may have forced the company to push the date back again. Initial forecasts are around 1 to 1.5 million sales in the first year, which is a very ambitious target. So stock being scarce from the start wouldn’t be good for the company’s first such headset.
While augmented and virtual reality glasses are nothing new, Apple’s solution, which is likely to cost around $2,000, will be a first in the premium segment and that’s another reason why the device hasn’t been released in limited quantities from the start.
